Rethinking Spiritual Formation For the Sake of the Next Generation
It is pretty obvious to me that we have dropped the ball when it comes to hurling Godliness into the next generation. As church leaders you and I need to engage in a colossal rethink. This conversation can no longer be about church growth…instead we have to focus on life transformation. I know, it sounds cliche at this point but its true.
When comparing the practices of imparting spiritual legacy in Scripture with the practice of the 21st century, western, New Testament church you find a distinct problem that has manifested a generation of compartmentalized Christians. The modern church in America disciples at church, on campus, in mass, one day a week. The Bible develops Christian legacy through the church and the family in small groups each day of life.
When we view the Shema of Deteronomy 6:4-9 and the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20 as stemming from the heart of God instead of different eras of time, we conclude the church and the family must work together to develop children who become adults living life with a biblical worldview.
We have some things to work on. Join me in a conversation that may one day revolutionize our culture…one home at a time!
